He was a farmer. Son Andrew was born New York about 1853, but daughter Catherine born in Germany about 1851, so they must have immigrated between 1851 and 1853. In 1920 Federal Census, Elizabeth states her immigration as 1853, however, she also says she was born in Alsace, not Hesse. \par On David's death certificate, his time in the U.S. is listed as 43 years, putting immigration about 1851. \par All of the church records in Germany record the surname as Jox, but they used the name Yox in all USA records. \par His gravestone shows a birth date of 8 Dec 1811, but that was actually his baptism (christening) date. Church records of his birth show date as 3 Dec 1811. \par \par (Medical):The family must have emigrated between birth of Catharina in 1850 in Oberbessingen, and the birth of Andrew in 1853 in NY state.}
